Welcome to Whetstone Station in Brattleboro, VT

For this Massachusetts day trip, we’re taking a drive through Western MA to Brattleboro, Vermont to chill with a delicious beer while taking in amazing nature. Overlooking the Connecticut River and situated on the New Hampshire-Vermont border, Whetstone Station is a brewery, rooftop beer garden and restaurant. In the restaurant or beer garden, you can choose from Whetstone’s brews or a couple “guest” brewery selections and, looking North, get views of both New Hampshire and Vermont, on the left and right of the river, respectively.

How to get to Whetstone Station (Brattleboro, VT)

Heading either east or west on the Massachusetts turnpike (I-90), go to highway I-91 North and head North to Holyoke, MA. As you get to Brattleboro, VT, take exit 1 onto US-5 North (Canal St.). Driving on US-5 North, you’ll eventually turn right onto E. Bridge St. (VT 119 E) and then head to your destination at 36 E. Bridge St. Assuming you drive from I-91 North, you’ve gone too far if you take Bridge St. over the small bridge into New Hampshire.

Use this map to plot your starting point off the MA turnpike.

What to see at Whetstone Station

Outdoor seating, available on both the main and beer garden levels, offers a stellar view of the Connecticut River. Because the river views are the main attraction, be sure to keep an eye out for when customers bring their food trays inside.

If you can arrive in the mid-to-late afternoon and get an outside spot, you’ll see (looking North) the sun fading behind the horizon where the river bends.

It's also a great spot for people watching in the summer as there are plenty of motorboats on the river. And you can snap a selfie by walking to the short bridge that is right next to the brewery.

Beers are ordered at the main bar counter; the digital kiosk above the bar lists currently available beers, which include pale ales, India Pale Ales (IPAs) and darker varieties. There is a casual food menu too, and you’ll be asked for your mobile number to receive a text when you can pick up your order at a designated station inside on the main level.

Tip: Onsite parking space is very limited, and there is lot, which allows for 2-hour parking, with meters directly across the street.

Tip: Make it family day with your kids by visiting Living Memorial Park, where you can go swimming, go on a walking trail, use a playground and see great views. Use these directions from Whetstone Station.
